The future seemed to have been mapped out for Franklin Butler, President of Catalina Yachts. In 1970, what the man wanted to do simply was to build a good boat. However, divine providence made him America's number one yacht company.

Butler, in 1969, ordered the construction of a sailboat but his builder ran out of funds and borrowed money from him but was not able to pay the money. As form of payment, Butler's boat builder friend instead surrendered his equipment to Butler. From those pieces, Butler started building boats and over the years was able to turn this endeavor into a life-long business. Boat production exceeded Butler's expectations when five years later the 5,000th hull was announced ready to sail.

Presently, Catalina Yachts are available in four different types. From a smaller 8-foot sporting boat to 47-foot cruise yachts. Catalina Yachts prides itself of having the most repeat customers in the industry. The Sport series are yachts 8-25 feet long, the Island series are 27-31 feet long, Cruiser series are 32-36 feet, and Ocean series are 38-47 feet long.

Catalina Yachts call the 8-foot boat "the Sabot" and the biggest Catalina yachts are the Catalina 470s. Butler has made a dedication to building family-oriented, durable, and well-designed boats. Catalina yachts boasts of the vessels' spacious interiors, well-organized family cockpits, and easily manageable rigs to provide outstanding performance in every boat.
